Allowing for fabric shrinkage

Cotton, linen and many knits can change size after washing.

A reliable method

Prewash and dry the fabric as the finished item will be cared for. When that is not possible, add a percentage reserve. Two metres with an assumed 5% shrinkage requires at least 2.10 m before other allowances.
